FOG OF WAR: the july GROUND BRIGHT pigment was named by four-time contributor @a.rural.pen. this complex three-part gallo-tannic ink kit guides subscribers through the magic of making a ‘living ink’ — an ink that darkens as it breathes. thomas is a magician & an ink historian ( and a brilliant artist-poet) who melted russian bayonets & smith wesson revolvers in sulphuric acid to make the iron sulphate in this ink kit. i, @tilkeelkins gathered the over-wintered oak galls, low in tannins, to produce this foggy grey, and @debgorr contributed the dried peach gum that helps the ink bead nicely. each kit includes @a.rural.pen’s favorite gallo-tannic ink recipe. about the name, thomas says: “A meditation on nature as war casualty. A color that occurs when iron spikes wood.
