Let’s do this - breaking down potential reasons why Charity’s season is so short and the reasons why it’s not. More details and thoughts that didn’t make it into the video below: 👉First off, the network has NOT spoken on why The Bachelorette seasons are shorter than The Bachelor and specifically haven’t said anything about Charity’s season. So these are different pieces of data we can look at to speculate on why the seasons have been shortened. 👉Second, I measure the data in weeks not episodes. I can do a post on the total episodes separately if you all are interested, but a “week” is defined by a rose ceremony. So the premiere is week 1, then week 2 is when the dates start. Even if a rose ceremony is cancelled, we count that week of dates as a “week” 👉MY THOUGHTS: As a data reporter, I’m interested in watching what will happen to reality TV and TV/movies in general in the next year or two after the SAG strike. While we saw a surge in reality TV after the 2007 strike but I think we might see a very different TV and movie landscape after this strike. I think social media has the potential to pull even more people away from TV (streaming AND cable) since we’ve been seeing an increase every year in great video content across multiple social media platforms. I’ve spoken on this before, but streaming platforms, like Netflix, aren’t competing with cable TV…. They’re competing with YouTube and TT (rhymes with smik-smok). We can also see that the data on people going to the movies hasn’t recovered since the world shut down as another interesting point. I think we might see another boom for creators on social media, specifically in the video space, over the next year. #thebachelorette
