Not keeping it light today. I can't do it. Too many questions & emotions surrounding a topic we should be discussing more openly. So, let's talk about suicide, anxiety & depression (feel free to scroll on by if you can't get down with today's content. No hard feelings). According to WHO, between 2019-2022, there was a 25% increase in anxiety and depression worldwide. 2023 isn't going so well either in case anyone is wondering. The numbers aren't going to get better until we prioritize mental health care. The pandemic wreaked havoc not only on our physical health but our mental health as well. The adjusted suicide rate in 2022 increased by 16%. 16%!!! These numbers beg so many questions. What is the value of human life? Who is ultimately responsible for it? What could we have done in the past knowing what we know today? And most importantly, what are we going to do as a society to ensure these numbers don't continue to rapidly ascend? Check-in with the people you care about. Add a reminder to your monthly calendar and make it a habit. Or, let one of those fun “When am I going to start my period?” apps do the reminding!
