6 months of Lily//10 moods of Lily I know I’ve been super open about my pregnancy and postpartum journey and I thought I would continue that. I am officially 6 months postpartum and I am thrilled to say I finally feel myself again. My mood/emotions really began improving around 3 months. To people who are postpartum experiencing any sort of emotional struggles please know you aren’t alone. Something that was also special around the 3-4 month mark was Lily’s personality really began to shine. For me, that was a game changer. Seeing her recognize me and love me and laugh the hardest for me is a feeling I can’t explain and really made the bond that much stronger. Lily now laughs, especially when you pretend to eat her belly, does not like going in the ocean, very much likes when you sing “the itsy bitsy spider”, reaches aggressively for the bottle if you aren’t bringing it to her fast enough, still does not like tummy time, still enjoys sleeping with her hands above her head, wants to put everything in her mouth, and smiles at anyone who calls her a pretty girl. I am so grateful to have such a beautiful healthy and happy baby girl and to have naturally retuned to a good headspace but just a reminder: an estimated 80% of people who gave birth experience “baby blues” and 1 in 7 experience a longer lasting postpartum depression/anxiety. It is a real medical condition. And besides the hormonal aspect, learning your role as a parent, learning and living in your new body, and just adjusting to your new life is HARD.
