On Virality… & Creative Burnout & Mental Well-Being 🔥 Last night, I had the incredible opportunity to share my @jikariasisters story on a panel with @canopy.for.creators & @jellysmack. We shared creator industry tips (i.e., how to build community, go viral, monetize content, etc.) with aspiring creators. As much I love sharing tactical advice based on my experiences with @jikariasisters, I also felt called to share the human well-being aspect of the industry. As a few people close to me know, earlier this year, I was experiencing creative burnout that manifested as fatigue, anxiety, and a physical / mental / emotional feeling of heaviness. I started to resent dance. It was no longer fun. And that was terrifying — dance has always been my safe space and creative outlet. It is also my avenue for connecting with an energy greater than myself, a cornerstone of my spiritual journey. Creating content for views & virality is fine, until it zaps you of your creativity. This happens when you make content to satisfy an algorithm, strangers on the Internet, brands who want to utilize your profile as ad space… basically to satisfy everyone other than your self. For someone who wants to pursue this path, there is of course a trade-off, but we don’t talk about it enough. Some reflections that have guided me on my journey: ✨ What drives you? Is it the views and virality? If so, what greater purpose do those views & virality serve for you? There is no universal right answer, but there is a right answer for YOU ✨ Are you aware of how virality disrupts your nervous system? It throws your neurotransmitters completely out of whack. How will you separate your mood and self-worth from external triggers? ✨ Are you serving your soul or an algorithm? What energizes me: pushing creative boundaries, challenging the status quo, and sharing about my messy human journey, especially if that makes even just one person feel less alone.
