Happy 50th Anniversary Hip Hop!!! To come of age as a Black queer man in America — I loved hip hop, even when it didn’t always love me back. But God and the Universe conspired. My career in media was built @vibemagazine and when I became Editor-in-Chief in 1999 — during The Golden Era of Hip Hop —I was able to shift and expand the narrative and be more inclusive because I was an openly Black gay man living in my truth. More on that later. Today, I celebrate Hip Hop and the biggest love affair of my life — working at VIBE — and having the privilege to contribute to some of the most legendary and iconic images of our time. I give tremendous thanks to my colleagues @danamo @mimivaldes @lightalan @jonathanvanmeter @garykoepke @bobmohler @fbachleda and the late, great visual genius #GeorgePitts for their brilliance and collaboration. And, of course, @quincyjones whose vision manifested this historic meteoric moment.
