Humbled to receive another #40under40 award. Thank you @blackhealthconnect, I am truly grateful and honored by the recognition I have been grappling with “under xyz age” recognitions more recently, especially in the context of my emotions surrounding the “lack of progress” in non-career aspects of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I do love me an award lol and feel immensely grateful and blessed. But, to be vulnerable, over the past two years in particular, I have struggled with feeling “behind” in my personal/financial life. Life is all about juxtapositions. I received my first under 40 award when I was 25. But, presently, at age 27, I still have not been in a serious relationship, I live paycheck to paycheck (thanks CMS 😊), and I have not been able to save as much as I would like. While the cerebral part of me recognizes that there is still a lot of time left by God’s grace, my soul does feel sad about it a lot of the time. 
I’m all for recognizing people for accomplishing great things at “young” ages. However, I also want to give voice to the fact that these awards can inadvertently push the feeling of needing to achieve things by a particular age. If you’re feeling “behind,” you’re not alone. And I’m not going to throw the classic “God’s timing is perfect” at you which, to my chagrin, many believers default to. The reality is that it may not align with what you feel like is “perfect” for you and that can be a painful truth. Anyways, i’m done with my soapbox for the day.
