Obligatory first day pic. I definitely didn’t think I’d see this day back in the diagnosis depths, but here we are … First Grade!! School is a stressful time for parents but special needs parents deal with an entirely different set of fears, it’s not ‘oh will he be bullied’ or ‘will he pass his math test’ it’s more like ‘will they accidentally hurt him this year?’ … ‘Can I trust them in an emergency?’ My personal number one top phobia is this: Will they treat him with kindness even if he doesn’t reciprocate? I am keenly aware that it’s not at all in human nature to continually offer love and affection to someone who doesn’t even treat you nicely, it takes an incredible amount of patience and sympathy to do so and I’m asking underpaid and overworked education processionals to do that everyday for my little snowflake and the worry consumes me completely 😫 Owen isn’t great at giving high fives or smiling at the right time and when you’re non-speaking, it’s even worse. I really just want my guy to have a positive educational experience and I hope the karma gods will award me this 🤞 So tribe, tell me what your biggest fears are for your disabled children at school?
