Update on #TheBlindSide situation — former NFL star Michael Oher vs. the family that took him in during high school, The Tuohys. I’m a former #investigativereporter & I worked in Memphis when the movie debuted. 🏈🏈🏈 Here are a few facts I couldn’t squeeze in: * Michael Oher is said to have made $34 million in NFL contracts. He has not made specific allegations that the Tuohys ever controlled or took a cut of his NFL contracts, brand deals, or his multiple book deals (though my understanding is that typically conservatorships involve all monies to be divvied out by the conservator to the ward.) * The Tuohy family was already well-off before Michael came into their lives, and in 2018/2019, sold off 100+ fast food franchises & properties in a $220 million deal. * Michael & the Tuohys have been “estranged” for about 10 years. * Michael’s attorneys have not given an interview yet about this (that I’ve seen or read.) * The Tuohy’s attorney said they plan to produce 3 text msg examples of Oher attempting to “extort” millions from the Tuohy’s to avoid going public with his allegations. * It’s still unclear why the Tuohy’s didn’t terminate the conservatorship years ago, but lawyers say they WILL end it. * Michael did acknowledge he was in a conservatorship (not just an adoption) in 2011. Some say even then, he did not know what that meant.
