One of the things I’m most grateful for in my career was getting the opportunity to meet, mentor, and shape so many amazing souls. Of course meeting my nephew and first ever NYPD mentee Alexis will remain at the top of that list but I’m thankful for all of my nieces / nephews that have allowed me to mentor them. Mentoring literally changed the course of my life and it’s become my PURPOSE. All of these years I thought I was mentoring Alexis and in the end it was he that taught me the most important lessons. Cherishing the time spent with your loved ones is just one of the many. To #LoveLikeAlexis is another and one of my favorites is to be present in every single moment. I never thought I would find joy again after his passing but slowly and surely that zest and passion for life has returned. I feel his presence. I hear his voice. And most importantly, I still see his infectious smile. He impacted me wayyyyyy more than I could have ever impacted him and it’ll be AM7 energy for eternity🤞🏽 My youngest daughter Hayden recently said to me “you were a police officer but now you’re a daddy”😭 and it was at that moment I realized they see and feel EVERYTHING. She’s only 3 years old but she was able to comprehend and articulate that her dad is in her life 24/7 now and that’s something I won’t take for granted. “Daddy you my bestfriend” is something I’ll never get tired of hearing.
