The Gordon gets its name from Alexander Gordon, the Duke of Gordon, Scotland, who refined the breed in the early 1800s. The Gordon Setter tends to be somewhat larger and closer working than many contemporary versatile breeds, and therefore makes a particularly good choice for the foot hunter.
