Twenty years ago, I was enjoying working with the Norwegian Armed Forces to produce paintings of their long and proud history. This one was pretty unusual as it depicts a post-war Catalina flying boat in the deep navy colour scheme. The background was inspired by a visit I made to Grotavaer near Harstad in Northern Norway during the midnight sun period. We sat on a hilltop at 3am with a panoramic view over the islands, and it was perfectly still. The silence was incredible, apart from a cowbell way off in the distance it was perfect peace, all cast in this glorious four hour sunset light. At that moment, traffic, shopping, stress, work all seemed a million miles away.
