I’ve never heard a song more accurately describe what it feels like to move away from your home, your family, your friends, and everything you’ve ever known Pretty sure my mama has said all these words to me over and over since I left The experience of finding happiness and trying to make your dreams come true while simultaneously missing children growing up and grandparents getting older. You miss the big moments; the birthdays, the deaths, the graduations, the first steps. But somehow it hurts most to miss the little moments. The walking home from the bar with your friends, the simplicity of your best friend just stopping by and the giggles that follow, the diaper changes and baby snuggles, the sitting on your parent’s back porch. Sometimes I like to pretend that time freezes for everyone else when I’m not there. I know it doesn’t and life moves forward without me.
