Does "The Nutcracker" shout Christmas to you? 🎄 It certainly does to me, so it was a lovely surprise to discover that the West Yorkshire Spinners Christmas 2023 yarn is inspired by the Nutcracker soldier ornaments that decorate so many homes at the festive time of the year. The sparkly yarn knits up into stripes of solid colour and black and white "Fair Isle" stripes, very similar to the Country Birds yarns - and if you've ever knitted with those then you'll know how addictively "one more round" those yarns can be! As usual, there's a free pattern to go with the yarn - that's always a lovely early gift!  I was so happy to be asked to design the Christmas pattern again this year and the pattern, called Alexander (the story behind the name is in the blog post to go with the yarn - find it in the Christmas category after today), incorporates cables which look just like the ornamental Nutcracker's boot laces, military-style braids, and chevrons which you see on many uniforms.  Oh, I had such a lovely time in my creative design mind with this yarn! You can get a paper copy of the pattern when you buy the yarn, available from today at WYS stockists (you can check their website for your closest one), and there's a download version too which you can get from many local yarn stores' websites, and also from the blog. Of course, Signature 4ply yarn is not just for socks so you might have some other ideas about what you could make with it, but whatever you choose, I am sure they'll be a Christmas cracker!
