In 2019, I was dead set on killing my first bull elk with a bow. For the previous 3 years, I spent over 30 days in the mountains trying to fulfill this lifelong dream, but kept coming up short. It wasn’t going to happen this year. Going into that season, I had pages of notes of everything that had gone wrong and made sure that my hunt plan was dialed for 14 days in the mountains. I spent damn near all my vacation from work on this trip and didn’t want to leave anything to chance. @treeline_pursuits was a big help in helping me learn some of the key components to add to my hunt plan that I had previously overlooked. When it comes to hunting in the mountains or even whitetails in my home state of Pennsylvania, I learned that if something can go wrong, it usually will. Having a plan to adapt in these situations has helped me reduce stress and feel confident going into hunts. This all came together on the first day of the trip and although there’s always an aspect to luck in any hunt, I like to think that a lot of that luck was created in the planning phases well before my truck rolled into Idaho.
