How about we share random stories about our life’s? After 3 years visiting my family and coming back to Korea I really felt empty but at the same time I felt home. It is so weird having two homes.. Your heart is basically split into directions. I missed Korea so much and I’m so happy that I’m back everything just connected but.. I am once again faced with being a foreigner in a country that everybody sees me just for that.. today I was with my husband studying in a café when I stepped out and sat in one of four tables outside of the café, in order to eat a sandwich. A middle aged man with his friend sat across from me, and one of them went to order coffee and the other, kept staring at me for three so minutes. As I felt his gaze upon me, I tried my best to totally ignore it and kept looking at my phone,but then he suddenly says in the most informal looking down way possible as if he was my boss or a teacher that hates me but knows me for 3 years “어느 나라 사람이냐?!“ which means “what country did you come from?” in the most informal, impolite way possible. I was taken aback and really surprised.. I’ve never seen this man. I’ve never talked to him either.. Would my answer make any difference in his life? It wouldn’t not at all. He just felt entitled because I’m a woman, and because a foreigner that he should know or he’s privileged enough to start a conversation with me to satisfy his curiosity because this is all I was to this person, just a random foreigner. It doesn’t matter that I’m doing my masters here. I am a member of the community. I have friends I have family I married here I have a husband I have a home. I share my worries and I pay my taxes in the same exact country. And God forbid, He would’ve never talked to a random Korean girl so informally or politely, and he would literally never talk to random Korean girl anyway. I totally ignored it. I looked at my phone for 10 more seconds, and proceeded to go inside and sit again with my husband. Someone this might be nothing. Buy for me as a person living here going about my day. It’s so exhausting. But I still besides that absolutely love living here.❤️ . . #internationalcouple #국제커플
