I was very dismayed and angered while out shopping recently in a Canadian Tire garden centre to have discovered this poor bird caught on a glue trap. 😩 I have many concerns about animal welfare (not just bears!) and near the top of my list is the use of glue traps…….so inhumane, they are banned in certain countries. Who knows how long this poor bird anguished or would have been left to suffer. These traps are cruel whether for the intended target of mice or any other animals they catch. Please don’t buy glue traps! Instead be kind to animals and speak to the store owner and contact the head office of any retailers who carry glue traps and ask that they no longer sell them. (Can. Tire; 1-800-387-8803, press 5). No animal should suffer this fate. Please share this post and help spread the word, thank you! We (Ivanna and I) got the bird to safety and thank @prairie_wildlife_rehab_centre for their expertise in removing him from the trap and caring for him. Unfortunately a secondary issue arose a few days later and he was not able to be saved. 😔 What to do if you find an animal in a glue trap, from Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; “Firstly, you want to prevent more of the animal from getting stuck so cover any remaining sticky spots with papertowel, newspaper, kleenex, or a rag. Do not try to pull the animal off the trap as feather damage and fractures can occur. Do not try to remove the trap with any substance, such as oil. All this makes it easier to be treated by our rehab centre, as we have the least amount of areas to treat and can limit the amount of oil needed to be removed from the animal, which increases speed and decreases stress for the animal”. #bangluetraps #animalcruelty #wildliferehab #wildliferescue
