Recent (and some not so recent!) research has identified a network in our brain that activates when we let our mind wander✨ ...and this network seems to have a connection to ADHD that is super interesting✨ While there still needs to be more research to fully understand this network, it could potentially give us greater insights into the neurology of the ADHD brain; how mind-wandering may have powerful neurological underpinnings that we didn’t realize existed... and this research may help generate more specific strategies to maximize this strength and to help us have better control over our sometimes difficult to control “mind wandering”when we need to!✨ Mind wandering serves a very important role in consolidating thoughts and memories and actually uses about the same amount of cognitive energy as active thinking✨ Previous thinking was that mind wandering or daydreaming happened when the brain slowed down, but seeing that the amount of energy used to mind wander is almost as high as active thinking has turned everything around!✨ Why does the brain invest so much energy into “mind wandering”? And why does it account for up to 50% of our brain’s activity?✨ Research in this area holds tremendous potential for understanding the neurology of any brain, but especially exciting is what it will bring to our understanding of an ADHD 🧠 brain ✨✨✨ Check out my previous post for more info!
