The face of a tired and happy author who just hit the deadline she’s been on (in some capacity) for well over two years. Yesterday I finished a complete draft of TBS5. At over 170K words, it’s the largest Bone Season book I’ve written so far. This deadline has been a constant source of worry. I’ve been so afraid of TBS5 being delayed again that I put everything on a backburner – exercise, eating properly, sleeping well – because I refused to see it get pushed beyond 2025. But I’ve done it. It’s finished – and I love the draft. TBS5 was tricky to get right, and I’ve taken some big risks, but I always do with this series. I’m so proud of Paige for how much she grows in this one, and I can’t wait to how the book changes and improves during the editing process. I’m now looking forward to a gentler autumn and winter, full of research and writing as I start my book about Iris. And begin slow-cooking all my ideas for TBS6, which I’m so excited about.
