Some of you will remember my “fake” son Dion (my teenager once called him the best fake brother ever and it just stuck). Dee came to stay with me for three weeks, which turned into three years, and became part of our family. He says I helped change his life but he also helped us at a time when our lives were shifting and changing. He’s grown into a fine human: resilient, sensitive and eager to venture out into the world. He’s proof that life is definitely what you choose to make it and also that your family can also be who you choose.
