The SR-71 and Concorde. Imagining these two astonishing beautiful aircraft meeting 60,000 feet up and at Mach 2.0 Concorde was the only passenger SST to fly scheduled routes, the SR-71 was a long-range, high-altitude, Mach 3.0+ military strategic reconnaissance aircraft Did it ever happen? There was a story of an air controller at Shanwick who said they spoke directly to an SR-71 which was on a conflicting route with an Air France Concorde. The controller said the SR-71 was at the time flying at Mach 1.0 and 60,000 feet. Unfortunately for the controller, a Blackbird pilot confirmed the SR-71 never flew below Mach 3.0 except over the Baltic Sea, and above 33,000 feet, Mach 1.0 was significantly sub-optimal Still, who knows if these two ever flew together.
