Happy Monday! Hope you have had great weekends. Thank you all for your kind comments about the October cover story I have written for @archdigest featuring the home of @adwoaaboah designed by @beataheuman. Of course, there is no way I was not going to have a chat about the kitchen. I have to say, I absolutely love it. I have been having a little flirtation with yellow kitchens recently and seeing this in person had me completely sold. The birch ply cabinets were stained this bespoke shade (it took several attempts to get this colour which Beata had envisaged). I love it because it has presence but is muted enough not to overwhelm. The beautiful worktops are Carrara marble. Another thing that excited me was the number of freestanding pieces in the kitchen, one being the specially commissioned piece of furniture which acts as an island but by no means looks like a traditional one. Beata sang to my soul when she told me she was not a big fan of conventional islands because of their blocky nature, and this interpretation certainly suits the space better and gives an airier feel. If you look closer at the ‘island’, the front has an etching of, well, a penis, commissioned by Adwoa, which is a lighthearted touch and a definite talking point. Above it is a vintage pendant from @purewhitelines. The kitchen was built by @alfrednewall who also created the bobble shelving, a great design detail that immediately elevates the look. The working kitchen area (with a @smeg_uk range) is an extension. The light from skylights can be quite glaring so Beata introduced seagrass blinds which soften the sunlight by diffusing its intensity. The tiles are from @mosaic.factory and pick up on the blue from a painting at the opposite side of the space. It is everything a great kitchen should be in my opinion - beautiful, welcoming and unpretentious and I am still so thrilled I was invited to visit it in person.
