Today on #nationaldayofencouragement I want to encourage every young baller to pursue her passions (both on and off the field). I’ve been reflecting lately on what has made my passion for this sport grow even as an adult and I realize it’s because of three key people: 1️⃣ My parents - they didn’t force me to be “all-in” on one sport or activity. I did community theater, played 3 sports, played instruments, and just played outside with my siblings. I was encouraged to try different things (always fulfilling commitments I had made) and that’s what made me MISS this sport. I didn’t get sick of it because I had other interests that made me miss it. 2️⃣ A really terrible coach. From being encouraged to quit to being told I would never be good enough, this disbelief and distrust motivated me to keep pushing myself. I wanted to be known as the player that was always giving 100%. I wasn’t the biggest or strongest or best, but there was no doubt that I was going to be the hardest worker. 3️⃣ An amazing coach. When I found my coach (who I still talk to this day!) she was the complete opposite of the coach in item 2. She challenged me and held me to a high standard but also loved on me and built me up. She taught me about the mental side of the game and how to recover from mistakes quickly. Today, I hope you feel encouraged by your inner circle to strive to be your best self, which softball is a PART of! I’ll be here encouraging you every step of the way ✨
