Friends, you don’t have to be a policy expert to love immigrants. But, wow, it can feel like it, right? We want to give you permission: When a loved one asks you how to fix the border crisis, you can simply say in love: “I don’t have all the answers. But I know two things for sure: Immigrants are made in the image of God, and I want to love my neighbors well.”  Of course, we want our government to come together and create a humane and secure immigration system that respects the dignity of everyone who sets foot in our nation, even if they ultimately can’t stay. And we can use our voices and ask our lawmakers to enact comprehensive immigration reform. And still, until God’s kingdom comes and God’s will is done on earth, people will keep having to flee unsafe homelands. This breaks our hearts, and it breaks the heart of God. So, what is our role here in what can feel like an unfixable situation? What can we, as ordinary Christian women, do? Jesus gives us a pretty moving answer in the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: We can love the neighbor God has put in front of us. When someone asks you what you think should be done about the border crisis, don’t feel pressured to have a policy conversation.
