I’ve been thinking a lot about what to post for R U OK Day. As someone who suffers with PTSD I know what it’s like to walk through the world feeling like I am unable to ask for help or to be understood. It’s the worst thing about going through a mental health battle, that feeling that no matter what anyone says no one will ever understand the depths of you pain, because how could anyone else ever hurt so much? If you’ve been following me for a long time you’ll remember for years my instagram was mostly me talking about my mental health struggles. Something about sharing online helped me not feel so alone. As R U OK Day rolls around for yet another year I thought it would be a good time to share how I am doing. Lately I have found it so easy to hide behind the highlight reel that instagram allows me to show the world when the reality is that I’ve been struggling with my own mind. My body had broken out in stress induced eczema (so fun), I get bloated from stress and I’m currently painfully bloated every day and I’m spending most days fighting my mind just to get out of bed and function. With age and experience (and an insane amount of therapy) I know that when my mental health dips, it is only a drop in the ocean that is my life and like every other time it will pass. I’m not sure what this post needs to achieve, I hope that if you’re struggling with a mental health battle you know that you are not alone and there are so many tools and resources you can use to work through it. There is always another side and it always gets better. And if you’re ever in a crisis I’ve included numbers on the last slide you can call. Lifeline has saved my life more than once, these services are invaluable. Use them.
