Today is one year since the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini. It was this day, that she was fatally beaten by the morality police in Iran for wearing an ‘improper hijab’. Today we look back the past year, we remember Jina and the countless lives lost. We echo their calls for freedom in opposition of a regime that aims to silence voices that call for liberation. It was first in Jina’s funeral in Saqez where chants of Jin Jiyan Azadî erupted - before quickly echoing across the whole of Iran. We all saw the bravely captured photographs, tweets and news headlines. People across Iran bravely took the streets, united, and chanting for the downfall of the regime. From the viral uproar with the hashtag #mahsaamini, to the several more hashtags that hauntingly emerged as more and more innocent people were killed. From 9 year old #kianpirfalak to 16 year old #sarinaesmailzadeh who was fatally hit on the head by security forces for protesting. Acts of resistance have continued, and the government continued with horrific tactics aiming to silence and in-still fear in people. From internet blackouts, to the poisoning of schoolgirls, to threatening and blackmailing the families of those killed.
