#PubDay 5 ⭐️ Book Review. Thanks to @marysueruccibooks @simonandschuster and @bookclubfavorites for this free book.⁣ ⁣ Hi y’all!⁣ ⁣ I finished reading BRIGHT YOUNG WOMEN by @jessicaknollauthor the other day and it was excellent. ⁣ 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 is inspired by a real-life sorority targeted by America's first celebrity serial killer, who everyone thought was smart and charismatic. 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖’𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝, 𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧.⁣ ⁣ In real life, a judge shockingly called the serial killer "a bright young man," which is where the title of Jessica's book, 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯, comes from.⁣ ⁣ 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 begins in 1978, hours before an act of violence changes the life of sorority president, Pamela Schumacher, forever. ⁣ ⁣ Over the next 40 years, Pamela tries to solve a mystery that will upend the lore of the so-called brilliant serial killer from Seattle, proposing a new narrative—𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨.  This story captivated me from page one. I enjoyed how it was told through multiple POVs and alternating timelines. Affording us the opportunity to learn how truly exceptional these women were. Knoll’s decision to reference the serial killer as only “THE DEFENDANT” is brilliant. One hopes that in the future, the media will realize that they should focus on the victims instead of sensationalizing the killer. ⁣ Jessica Knoll describes her book best, it's "a story of survivors, vengeance, and forgiveness."⁣ ⁣ This was one of my most anticipated books of 2023, and it understood the assignment! 👏🏻💛🩷✨❤️⁣ ⁣ I give BRIGHT YOUNG WOMEN ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #qotd ⁣What is one of your most anticipated books of Autumn? ⁣ ⁣ Happy Reading, friends!⁣ xoxo,⁣ Mel
