Stumbled upon this photograph from my archives. Memories from the Covid era came rushing back. Amma’s 2nd vaccination was due and even visiting the vaccination centres in those days was a grave risk, specially for the senior citizens and people with morbidities. And Amma with her liver issue and diabetes was quite susceptible to the virus. I was dreading that visit to the vaccination centre. Even amidst the scare, Amma didn’t lose her humour. On us maintaining the social distancing in the car, Amma remarked, “Shanu, Main peechhe baithi hun Iska matlab yeh nahin ke tum gaadi Tez chalaa sakte ho. Yahaan se bhi Chappal kheench ke Maar sakti hun.” And we laughed so much on our way to the vaccination centre. Those last 6 months which I spent with her were life defining for me at many levels. She inspired me to derive my inner strength by working on my craft. She pushed me to write when I was all too depressed during those dark times.
