🧚🏼 #fairytalefridays 🧚🏼 Today I’m playing a bassoon melody from Sleeping Beauty (1889), a ballet by Tchaikovsky. 👑 Tchaikovsky’s ballet is based on the classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale by Charles Perrault. Other fairy tale characters, including Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, make an appearance near the end of the ballet as well. The most important characters in the ballet are Sleeping Beauty herself, her prince, the good Lilac Fairy, and the evil Carabosse. 👑 This waltz accompanies the entrance of the Lilac Fairy in the Prologue, which tells the beginning of the Sleeping Beauty story at Aurora’s christening. The Lilac Fairy enters to this grand music but is quickly interrupted by the evil Carabosse who curses Aurora with an early death. The Lilac Fairy modifies the curse, causing Aurora to sleep for 100 years rather than dying. 👑 Thank you to @gio_likes_troupials for suggesting I feature this piece.
