🧚🏼 #fairytalefridays 🧚🏼 Today I’m playing a violin and bassoon excerpt from Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), a movie score by John Williams. Thank you to Amelia @sol.la.sie.do for playing this with me! I’m also excited to be playing the music of John Williams with the man himself conducting the Boston Symphony on Saturday 8/5 at 8pm at Tanglewood! 🦉 The Sorcerer’s Stone movie follows the events of the first Harry Potter book, the start to one of the most popular series of literary fantasy ever written. Although literary fantasy has much in common with fairy tales, the two genres differ in important ways. For instance, the settings in literary fantasy include many complex details, in contrast to simple and often vague descriptions in fairy tales. Series like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are also much longer than fairy tales. Despite these differences, the music inspired by literary fantasy has commonalities with fairy tale music. 🦉 John Williams has written some of the most recognizable movie scores of all time. Hedwig’s Theme is one of the most famous melodies. Both the violin and bassoon part in this clip are difficult enough to be asked on orchestral auditions!
