One of the things I enjoy about autumn is changing up my bed, bringing out the rusty-coloured linens, the warmer duvet and the hot water bottle. Actually, the hot water bottle is never far away but I digress. This year I’m particularly looking forward to trying out my new @woolroom duvet. I’ve actually just bought Woolroom products for The Bell Tower because they’re organic, sustainable and more of our guests are asking for hypoallergenic bedding. I was therefore rather excited when Woolroom gifted me a washable organic duvet to try out at home where I’m especially looking forward to testing out its temperature-regulating qualities. A good night’s sleep is something I used to take for granted but since I hit perimenopause it’s been elusive. I’m naturally a cold person but I’ve been plagued by night sweats for a while now. It’s disrupting my sleep and leaving me feeling lousy during the day. Poor quality sleep can have a huge impact on our health, contributing to an increase in visceral fat, insulin resistance and inflammation among other things but when you’re waking up every night a hot, sweaty mess, your options are limited. Wool can help regulate body temperature by absorbing the moisture from the skin and evaporating it rapidly which in turn can improve sleep quality by up to 25%. I certainly hope so and I’ll report back on the duvet. In the meantime, I’ve posted some of the sleep tips I share with my midlife fitness retreat clients on my Stories.
