Today is the first day of Fall, and fall migration is in flight! The shorebird action in Flamingo has been off the charts! We've spotted Caspian terns, godwits, turnstones, dowitchers, sandpipers, black-bellied plovers, and more. We can’t guarantee they’re still there, but come on down and check it out. High tide viewing is best by the amphitheater in the Flamingo Campground, when birds are forced to congregate along the shore. You may want to bring a bug jacket with you, though! During low tide, the best viewing area is from the Guy Bradley Visitor Center facing south towards Florida Bay, when birds congregate on the exposed mudflats to feed. This spectacle can be viewed with scopes from inside the comfort of the visitor center during open hours, or with your own scope from the elevated walkway outdoors. Have you been to Flamingo recently? If so, tell us which birds you've seen in the comments.
