As I’m coming up on 20 years living cancer free, I’ve been doing quite a bit of reflecting. I recognize, I never felt powerless. The power I bestowed was always one of the mind: My perspective. The cancer diagnosis I saw as a challenge to overcome, not a death sentence. The job loss I experienced eventually pushed me in the direction towards yoga, and teaching, which helped me heal from the eating disorder. And other mental health challenges? Well, I can accept that my past has taught me a lot about valuing my health, my body, and the quality of food that I choose to put in to my body today. It has given me the power of mind to overcome anything, and the strength to ask for what I really want in life.
