As many of you by now know, I was invited to Goalkeepers 2030, a event put on by the @gatesfoundation for likeminded folks to think and talk about how we are going to achieve the SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) This year’s main focus was maternal health with the theme ‘Imagine A World’ helping to remind us that optimism is must. From interviewing this years Change Maker award recipient, the midwife, Ashu Martha Agbornyenty to listening to the powerful speech given by Ugandan midwife Eva Nangalo it’s clear we really need to listen to those closest to the women in need. Of course this has to be a multi pronged approach as the interventions we were introduced to on the day are going to take money and power to scale but even when those things become available, they will be put to use by these same midwife’s who are quite literally begging to be given space on the tables where these decisions are made. Granted this isn’t the biggest space but what I learnt from the energy at #Goalkeepers2030 is that we all have a part to play, local to global.
