Meet Assoc Prof Chen Zhi Xiong, Master of @nuslighthouse – one of NUS’ newest hostels. He coined the hostel’s name during an “Aha!” moment while driving down Prince George’s Park Road one night. At LightHouse, Assoc Prof Chen, who is Assistant Dean (Education) at @NUSMedicine, hopes to create a familial atmosphere by organising activities in an organic, spontaneous and informal manner through its Communities of Practice. Its “Iced Milo, Kopi, Teh?” sessions bring together staff and students to co-organise and enjoy activities ranging from movies-under-the-stars to fireside chats and open-air jam sessions. House residents can also find Assoc Prof Chen stopping for a chat during his evening walks. “At LightHouse, you ‘Live your Light’. We hope our students will slowly find the light in themselves,” says the affable Assoc Prof Chen.
