I rarely drink Super Tuscans, if at all; the quality-price ratio is difficult, older bottles are increasingly inaccessible and younger wines can be tight and monochromatic. Nevertheless, I couldn’t resist this 2020 Tignanello at @fishgamerestaurant last month with the unctuous, umami-laden game menu cooked over open fire. The wine list is also considered and diverse and worth visiting for. The 2020 Tignanello is an explosive rendition, leaping from the glass with strikingly primary, intense and forward sangiovese characteristics of sour cherry, blackberry liquor, ground coffee, and aged balsamic. Then, with a little air, the wines secondary characteristics unfurl, showing sweet baking spices, vanilla pod and cocoa powder. The palate is medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity and supple, melting tannins. This is a promising wine with a bright future.
