Please join us in a very warm welcome to Lars Shimabukuro. Born in Honolulu, Hawai’i @landlockedfishcake is a mixed and trans artist whose work expands ideas of homelands, family, and memory to include the queer landscapes that raised them. They earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Yale University, completed Haywood Community College's Professional Crafts Fiber Program in Clyde, North Carolina and worked at the Penland School of Craft for three years as a Core Fellow. With their background in fibers, print-making ad ceramics, Lars will activate the mixed media studio, the loom as well as the ceramics studio. Shimabukuro is currently based in Philadelphia, PA, on unceded Lenape land. “I want to work on a series of sculptures that stack into each other and build a framework for open lace woven fabric and reed baskets to grow out of the ceramic piece. I enjoy working intuitively with clay and allowing for a woven component afterwards enhances this for me.” #artistresidency #ceramicsresidency #fibersresidency #wnc
