Officially passed my board exams & have started clinical rotations as a ✨3rd year medical student✨ The past 2 months of my dedicated study period have really pushed me to my limits, emotionally and physically. I found myself adopting unhealthy habits like having a horrible sleep schedule and diet, as well as constantly putting myself down. And I know some of you may be thinking, what’s the big deal it’s just pass/fail now. Although that’s true and there’s less weight on our shoulders, this exam was still a cumulative of the first 2 years of medical school-which by the way, is an enormous amount of information. With that said, here’s what I’ve learned from this experience: 1. It’s okay to feel lost at times. This is the best time to make mistakes and learn from them. You don’t need to know it all, but as long as you’re always open to challenging yourself and willing to put in the effort, you’ll get to where you need to be. 2. Imposter syndrome comes in many shapes and sizes. It doesn’t change once you get accepted into med school, but your perspective and how you handle it can. Remember how far you’ve come, trust in your capabilities, and always be kind to yourself. 3. Life outside of medicine moves on with or without you. So make time for your friends and family during school and continue to strengthen those relationships. There will be times that they need you and definitely times that you’ll need to lean on them, especially while studying for boards. 4. Getting in an extra few hours of studying is not an excuse to jeopardize sleep, fitness, and diet. It’s time to stop making excuses that life is just too busy and you’ll “get to fixing the bad habits once ____ is over”. The truth is that life will continue to get busier and busier, and those bad habits won’t change until you begin to prioritize them. You may not be where you need to be yet, but you’re closer than you were yesterday 🩵 #medstudent #medschool #clinicalrotations #medicalschool #step1 #comlex1 #boardexams #medicalstudent #medicine
