It’s SA Gravel Champs Weekend, in the Karkloof! I feel very strongly about this area as it’s where I first found gravel a decade ago, which saved my riding life. I think that the @gogravelmidlands team have created a route that represents what gravel riding is in the area, which is not off road road riding, and I am so excited to see what some proper riders can do on it. Whoever takes home the bands will need to survive a million climbs, handle some long and sketchy (thanks road works) descents, navigate forest track, look after their bike and body and time their efforts just right. It’s a no excuses course with no place to hide, it breaks me even in training. Good luck to everyone racing and riding. Be safe going downhill, use the climbs as time to take in the views, appreciate the quiet, and please come back for more. Here’s hoping that this is just the start of a long-running event that showcases the most special part of South Africa to all types of riders. #benkyrides #justride
