Finally feeling like myself again — and right where I need to be. I haven’t been on the river nearly as much as I normally would by now this season. I’ve actually been quite the hermit this summer, aside from visiting a few close friends. Coming home from my last expedition took a lot out of me. Physically, of course but also healing my head and my heart. When I came home, I was numb to all of it. I didn’t let any of it hit me because there was so much to process. Then once I came home, I stepped right back into family life and being the responsible party for my Nana as we navigate her severe dementia. A friend of mine checked in a couple of weeks after I made it home and asked if I had processed any of it yet. Of course, I hadn’t. She told me that when the tears and pain finally came, to just let it annihilate me because the depth of my disappointment would show me the depth of my desire. And THAT is an incredible thing to know. I was gutted, then followed by my alive day on June 23, and rolling right back into an intense (insane) workload, still hosting TKEF clinics, supporting my partner who is out on fires, all while the rest of my family was back in Florida — it was tough and a huge load to carry. But I’ve found my routine again and back at it. Take this as your reminder that it’s okay to hit pause. Be fearless and ruthless in your pursuits, but take the time to sit with and embrace the uncomfortable. Then, make the time to do what puts a smile on your face and lights a fire in your heart. #leftlegless #fishon
