Happy 50th Birth-Month Hip-Hop! As we cook up new episodes of @fresherapodcast and @smootherapodcast, we wanted to celebrate by posting some of Stupid Fly’s greatest Classic Hip-Hop moments. Learning about the REAL stories of our favorite groups and MC’s from The Golden Era has been one of the biggest motivations behind starting Stupid Fly. In the 80’s & 90’s all we had was five minutes on Yo! MTV Raps or BET’s Rap City to really get to know the personalities behind our favorite music. And now that we are older and seeing some of these legends pass on, hearing first hand stories about the likes of Tupac, Biggie, Shock G, Prince Markie Dee, Guru, etc etc, is so important to keep their memories alive. Here, J-Ro from the Alkaholiks talks about his time working with the late-great Ol’ Dirty Bastard on the Alkaholiks classic “Hip-Hop Drunkies” and what he was like during that process…and the story doesn’t come up short. ODB & Tha Liks, two crews from two different coasts, made this song at the height of the East Coast West Coast Beef of the mid-90’s and showed that everyone could get along through the love of Hip-Hop…oh yeah, and maybe a little bit of booze too.
