No we won’t stop talking about boomers. Or men. Or landlords. Because WE KNOW there are great people in those groups. YOU DON’T NEED TO TELL US AND IF YOU DO, YOU’RE DE-RAILING AND ALSO STUPID. If you’re angry when we talk about boomers or other systemically oppressive groups, do some reading on it instead of sending us furious DMs. Google it. It’s about racism, but applies equally to all oppressions: youtu.be/dw_mRaIHb-M It’s true some older people had difficult lives and coped during tough times. But it’s as a CLASS GROUP, older people hold most wealth; were young when it was easier to buy a home; and vote conservatively (to entrench wealth). It’s also true older people get most gains from negative gearing, franking credits and other tax rorts: money which could stop kids living in cars and tents. If you’re not more angry about THAT than being called a boomer, you’re … cooked. It’s also true there are a lot of great men. But 45 women killed this year and thousands of rapes will tell you it’s not fucking all of them. It’s also true some landlords are nice. But a huge upswing in rent costs caused partly by price-gouging landlords who demand tenants indemnify them against their speculative investments should signal a lot are pricks. Of course, it’s impossible to cover all complexities of intersectionality and class in one post. It’s also true older people can experience rampant ageism AND gross inherent privilege, too. This makes their grievances when people say “boomers” in a derogatory way more understandable. But posting how older people are statistically holding Australia back IS NOT AGEISM. So here’s the deal. If you’re not angry about millions of boomers voting NO and cheering on racism at CPAC (just LOOK at the pics below!), fuck off. If you’re not angry about men demeaning and killing women, fuck off twice. And if you’re not angry about many landlords harming tenants, fuck off three times. Yet if you are angry about those things, you’re like us. So stop fucking abusing us, okay? Rant at our joint enemies, and help us all work towards a better world. Deal? #ToYourBrooms
