The Larder is our rear kitchen, a versatile workspace that serves multiple functions. Most of the preparation and cleanup for dinner parties takes place in this room off the main kitchen. Adjacent to the Larder there's a grill porch, and across from the sink is a speed oven. The Larder also functions as a morning kitchen, equipped with various coffee makers, a tea kettle, a toaster, and a Vitamix. I display cereals, nuts, and other dry goods in the Larder so that guests can help themselves, especially in the morning (so as not to disturb me). Beyond this, my goal was to establish an organized environment for my husband in the morning. He rises earlier than I do and seems to have an inherent need to “designate” his space. This involves leaving multiple dirty spoons on the counter, placing open jars of jam with lids on the edge of the counter alongside sugar crystals that have escaped, crumbs, and partially eaten English muffins. Following this, there's the Vitamix, filled only halfway with water, seemingly rinsed after use? Even with the dishwasher adjacent to the sink, cereal bowls end up “resting” in the sink waiting for someone else to place them safely into the dishwasher…. @thedowagerinn #larder #easthampton #bryangraybill
