This work is simultaneously art and protest.  For #WomensEqualityDay, visit Barbara Kruger’s “Untitled (Your body is a battleground)” at The Broad. The work addresses media and politics. In 1989, a wave of anti-abortion laws chipped away at the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. Kruger made this work as a response to and for the Women’s March on Washington. The woman’s face is split in positive and negative exposures, and obscured by text, marking a stark divide over women’s reproductive freedom.
