Watercolour’s wet-into-wet technique makes it an even more kinetic medium than it already is, perfect for suggesting the natural organic movement of living things. The diffusion of the pigment as it spreads into the surrounding wet paper or paint does most of the work for you with this technique, especially when it comes to painting animals and their distinctive markings. But even though the result looks loose it requires control.
