Music has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s the one requirement we had in my family growing up - everyone has to learn to read music. It may sound like a strange requirement, but it’s likely the reason my family exists at all. My Dad was drafted and in boot camp, ready to head to war. One day, someone walked in and asked if anyone could read music. My Dad raised his hand, was immediately ushered off to join the Drum and Bugle Corps, and the rest is history. My Dad is a wonderful musician. He can sing, keep a beat better than anyone I know, and he is an excellent trumpet + bugle player. I took up violin when I was in second grade and later switched to flute - some of my fondest memories are tied to music. To this day, I swear I learned to understand math on another level because of my musical knowledge, and it’s likely why I became an engineer. When @lovevery reached out saying they had developed The Music Set and wanted to know if we were interested in testing it out, I immediately responded YES! An incredible amount of research and testing has gone into The Music Set and it shows. We’ve been playing with it for weeks, and I’m continually amazed how engaging developmental play can be. The Pentatonic Pat Bells remain the favorite piece in our household. The bells can be played in any order and combination and sound harmonious. They are designed to help children build skills like pattern recognition. My personal favorite, however, is the Rhythm & Songs Book that accompanies the set. It introduces building blocks of music through activities and songs designed to help children learn about patterns, rhythms, and compositions. It has made teaching so much easier for me!
