When we see our little ones doing something they shouldn’t be, we naturally would ask them to stop. For example, if the little one is about to hold a cup of water, we might say something like “No, don’t spill the water.” When our little ones hear that, they might skip over the No part and hence think it’s okay to spill the water. With that said, if it’s an emergency such as the little one playing with the stove or something really dangerous, it’s okay to say No to get their attention to prevent the emergency from getting worse. Otherwise, here are some steps usually take if I want to correct my little one. 🔅 I rephrase it about what they can do, rather than what they can’t 🔅 Get down to their level or make eye contact when explaining to them 🔅 Expect that they won’t get it the first few times, be patient and explain again 🔅 Find their intentions so we can meet their needs or curiosity EG “I see you want to use your feet, you can use your feet to play the bell.” I hope you find this helpful and feel free to share your thoughts and ideas below.
