Mom met him when he was 25 and first played in NYC. Introduced him to her 1970s New York journo pals and SNL stars. Mom, Jimmy Buffett and Bill Murray at a NYC dive bar in 1977–what I would do to have seen it! Later Mom introduced Dad to Jimmy. Dad asked Jimmy fishing questions, in return Jimmy asked Dad about politics. Good trade! My own moment with Jimmy is one I treasure. I saw him through the window of a restaurant and being young and dumb, I worked up my courage and introduced myself. He stood up, pulled out a chair and ordered me to sit. “What do you want to drink?” he asked. I was so nervous, what do you order when Mr. #Margaritaville asks your drink? After stalling for 7 seconds I blurted out, “Landshark!” Jimmy laughed, “I think I can secure that.” Out came a cold bucket and for an hour we shot the bull about the NBA, politics and contemporary music.
