I don’t think I have to explain what happened right before this picture was taken. I think the eyes say it all. And so do the eyes of so many other children and especially girls. That fear and sadness you can’t hide. So!!! When they say,it made you who you are today. When they say,it made you resilient. When they say,it made you strong. When they say,what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I get angry and frustrated hearing that. Yes,life events that can’t be controlled because that’s life. But not being abused by someone,EVER, and especially as a child and especially someone that should be your safe place,your protection,your family and your everything. I shouldn’t have had to be strong and brave. I shouldn’t have had to live in fear. I shouldn’t have been beaten especially as a child. I should have been safe. I should have been protected. I should have been cared for. I should have been looked after. I shouldn’t have been left out on the street,underage,with no money to find a place to sleep in the middle of the night. I should have just been a kid. And so should have and should many,many other children and especially girls. So if you are speaking to a victim or surviver of abuse and especially child abuse,please choose your words carefully. And please have more empathy. Child abuse leaves so many scars and so much trauma and some people never end up healing from it.
