It’s Asthma Week, so let’s pause to celebrate the marvel of breath and life itself. 🌬 Meet Father Joseph Pham, a double lung recipient who participated in this year’s DonateLife week. His journey reminds us that breath is a precious gift, just like the gift of life through organ donation. In 2010, Joseph was put on the organ transplant waitlist. During this time, Joseph wondered if he would ever get the call. “I only stayed in my room because I needed to be around my oxygen machine for breathing. It was so big and noisy. I would sit at the window, looking out at people walking on my street. I had only one dream: to be outside and to exercise like them again,” Joseph recalled. After a two year wait, he got the call that changed his life forever – a set of lungs was ready for him. A few years post-transplant, Joseph is the happiest he has ever been. Even though “it’s a hard journey to be able to walk and breathe freely”, he is forever grateful to the generosity of his donor and their family.
